The Story of Jeff "Roo" Hedrick
Jeff "Roo" Hedrick is a native of North Carolina and among many successes Roo graduated from Appalachian State and was a manager at Piedmont Natural Gas. In 2005 Roo became a member of the Spears YMCA and joined an ever-evolving group of men, the Hoopsters. This is where Jeff acquired the name "Roo" as he jumped as if he were a kangaroo playing basketball. The morning of December 4, 2010 Roo did not make it to basketball as he was not feeling well. Roo discovered that he had Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM), one of the most aggressive brain cancers. Roo had brain surgery and endured months of radiation and chemo treatments. Roo inspired others with his positive attitude. He soon returned to the basketball courts in March 2011 and played until September 2012. On January 9, 2013 God needed a great man on his roster in Heaven - that could jump like a kangaroo.
